Sound like fun? People have been asking where will it be at. When will it be?
It’s time to start planning for 2009! Yesterday I asked my Twitter network what speakers they’d like to hear & on what topics? I also suggested that people could practice shameless self-promotion. If you are passionate about a topic & would love the opportunity to speak… now is the time to speak up! Here are the ideas that surfaced:
- internal community manager
- community managers in government – military social media
- how community managers are doing more with less
- building & growing public facing community
From Twitter
- franswaa what about something specific to nonprofits using social media … i don’t see much specifically for nonprofits out there
- sondernagle I’d like to see @marshallk speak about comm. managers for startups
- communitygirl I just heard Anil Dash @convergesouth on Friday and he was awesome. I enjoy talking about smaller local online communities
What topics would you like to hear about or speakers that you’d like to hear? If you’re a company, what are you interested in? You’re welcome to email me at conniebensen (at) gmail.com
Hi Connie: @Communitygirl here. Thanks for the mention. I believe we are all doing more with less and it’s tough, particularly when you have a community that is growing very rapidly like mine. One of the ways I am managing that is by soliciting the help of trusted community members without them really knowing it, and by culling similar content to create asset galleries and niche destinations throughout the site based on topics and content. I think we all need to do some inventory, look at what we’ve got out there and start compiling and building on it to create even more content. We also have to ask our community for some of the things we want. When you’re respected within the community, members will essentially submit or provide anything you ask. We just have to think outside the box and we’ll get the goods.
I second @sondernagle! I’m always interested in hearing more about getting the ball rolling and getting people interested in you as a start up.
My 2009 plan is to actually decrease the amount of tech related conferences I go to. I’m interested expanding out of our tech silo and see what other industries are all about. For me, its about more effort into teaching others what we know.
I wrote about this in length at

How about something for us B2B folks? I don’t hear too much about social media and community building in the B2B space, and it’s definitely different from B2C stuff.
I’ve been working with the “unsung” community managers. The people who own a business with a few employees and they do everything – including being a community manager.
I’d like to recommend you get a few people who run restaurants and have to do it all themselves.
They won’t be as sophisticated as others, but they’ll have some killer insights.
Hi Connie, whilst we’re splintering into different types of communities can I add “Passion-Centric Web Communities” (PCWCs)… I only came across this concept the other day
here.
This appeals to me – as you know I’m a Community Manager for a parenting site – so a lot of discussion about product/consumer-based communities sometimes doesn’t fit.
I’d love to come over (or should I say up?!) from Australia.
