Home office visits give me the opportunity to meet up with bloggers! My husband & I had dinner with Michael Allison & Dave Traynor. (Tris Hussey tweeted in sick). It was funny to hear Michael explain the connections. I met Tris in Seattle at the Web Comm Forum event. I had met Michael online thru Dan Schawbel. I introduced Michael to Tris online. (Tris is in the photo below). Then Michael met Dave Traynor at a local event he presented at (Tris had brought him). So it was a full circle of connections.
We had a great dinner at Pagliacchi’s. Michael has finished his Master’s degree in Communications & is looking for work in a PR firm.
Dave Traynor is a blogger & writer. Dave you’ll have to leave a comment & list out what you do (I don’t want to misrepresent it).
The next day I caught a tweet by Tris Hussey that he was downtown. I invited him to the ACDSee offices (because he’s an addict now). I maybe take responsibility for that because in December we bonded over our Nikon D80’s. Tris works for B5 media & trains over 350 bloggers worldwide! As he was being introduced to the developers & various dept’s it was obvious he was connected. I had to chuckle because he was ignoring half the noises & they had my attention. I’m just not that wired (Granted I am online a lot but not with a mobile device. I haven’t found a need for a data plan yet.)
Thanks guys for meeting up with me in Victoria! It was great to see you again – and I look forward to the next time.
I do admit that one of the downsides to working remotely in a rural area is that I don’t get together in person with other bloggers often enough. But I’m working on remedying that & will be attending two social media events in the Twin Cities in May. The MN Interactive Marketing Assoc is hosting an event on May 15th (a panel with a Forrester rep I understand – not @jowyang though). They’re also having a social the night before. Then on Friday I’ll be joining the Twin Cities Social Media breakfast that @RickMahn started a few months ago. It will be great to meet my MN Twitter friends in person!
It was great to meet you too Connie. And you’re right about connections and networking. You never know how things are going to spin out from the connections you make. As for what I do, I’m a freelance communications consultant, but I spend most of my time writing web content for larger companies. I’ve spent a lot of my career handling internal communications for companies and now that I’m on my own, I like to mix work from larger companies with opportunities to help smaller businesses and non-profits work out how to get what they need from new technology. It’s a lot of fun and its never dull. And I blog about stuff that’s interesting to me at http://www.thedailyupload.com. Hope we meet again soon.
