It’s time to confess to something stupid that I did or let’s say I didn’t do! And because people were so helpful I really can admit to it so all of you can have a good laugh at my expense.
Something in mid-October made me realize that if I Googled Connie Benson, it didn’t show up very high. I have the URL www.conniebenson.com because people like to spell it that way. So I put out a request for help on Twitter & four people responded! That’s the first time anyone’s answered. (Maybe I wasn’t asking the right questions?!) Between their suggestions & comments, I had lots of ideas. We even solved another problem. Jim noticed that my blog was blocking Google spiders. So I fixed that.
I was just on the verge of flying to my home offices, so I had to let it rest. Shortly after my sister in her infinite wisdom solved the problem. A week or so later I told her that I had moved up to #3 on a search. She said, “I know, you didn’t have any metatags.” She had popped Connie Benson in & it was working. It seems that when she had asked for tags I had created a list but missed the part about put them in yourself. Ok, then! :)
And look at today’s Feedburner’s results!
I took out the Wink social media widget because someone commented on the lack of SEO. I like having the text under my photo.
Thank you to everyone who helped, offered words of support, etc (and that means you @hyperg, @tastybit, @chrisgilmer & @jlamos! And thanks to Chris Gilmer for doing a search a week ago & letting me know things were better!
I’m happily coming up number two on a google search now. Mission accomplished! On to the next challenge..
Well Connie, its a month later, and it looks like you are #1 for both “connie bensen”, and “connie benson”. Amazing how a couple simple little changes make you a little more accessible! : ]
