Working remotely is a great thing. I didn’t mind giving up the 30 minute commute 2 times per day. And because we have 6 months of snow, it’s easy to work from home. But this also means that when I do travel for work, it’s more like a jaunt. My first trip to the ACDSee offices in Victoria, BC ended with an unexpected flight on a float plane. Today we had an adventure with weather.
We’re used to blizzard conditions. That translates into staying at home. The storm was predicted a few days in advance, but sometimes they never come to be. This morning we got up at the appointed 4 am and went to the airport. Around 5:30 am it started snowing heavily & visibility dropped. We boarded the plane on time & every seat was full. Fifty optimistic people were headed for warmer temp’s. The other jet that had boarded 15 min’s before us just sat there & our pilot announced that we would wait until we could see the runway. The snow outside was accumulating… Did I mention we’re optimists? After patiently waiting 45 minutes for them to de-ice the first plane, plow the runway, taxi it to the runway, then de-ice it again, it took off when the pilots could see the runway. Then we took our turn thru the same procedure which received applause.
I have to give United Airlines a lot of credit for providing service in such nasty conditions. The poor guy that was 20 feet in the air in an open bucket de-icing planes (two times for each plane). It had to have been miserable. This is the weather back home now. brrr!
And for family & friends who were worried about our traveling, we made it safely. It was sunny & 81 here in Anaheim today!
Did you know that there’s an exact replica of Independence Hall (as in Philadelphia) just across from Knottsberry Farm? And it was used to film the first National Treasure. (We fed the ducks too.)
wow – snow for 6 months of the year . It sound s,ike my 3 years in Moscoe. The weather. I am glad you are in awarmer climate now.
